Thanks so much, Dyanne. The Pinnacles are truly spectacular. In fact, we were thinking of going to the desert–Joshua Tree, Anza-Borrego–then realized how much more we prefer the coastal mountains and spring wildflowers–especially in a drought year, when the desert would not be very abloom. But I have to say that last week, in Big Sur, the poppies there were also not very open since it was pretty socked in.

I was probably 7 months pregnant with my son when we went to the high dessert to see the poppies while my parents were visiting us in LA. I was wearing maternity overalls (for reals). It was freezing cold and windy,and the poppies wanted nothing to do with it, curling up and hiding their cold faces from us. Someday, I’d like another crack at seeing the poppies growing. I think your location is much prettier.
