]]>My heart goes out to your sister-in-law, Wendy. I believe the Chaplain was well-intentioned, and her broader point is to make meaning out of one’s cancer experience so that you can leave behind the sole identity of being a cancer patient. I didn’t put this in the post, but the TED episode banter between the chaplain and the host became nauseating, along the lines of “This isn’t going to be one of those depressing cancer stories, is it?” It just really got to me. But then I’m a psychotherapist, used to dealing with feelings most people usually don’t find a good audience for.
