The good thing about real and authentic is it covers the entire spectrum of experience, darker and lighter!

It certainly has its virtues–and its limitations.

My heart goes out to your sister-in-law, Wendy. I believe the Chaplain was well-intentioned, and her broader point is to make meaning out of one’s cancer experience so that you can leave behind the sole identity of being a cancer patient. I didn’t put this in the post, but the TED episode banter between the chaplain and the host became nauseating, along the lines of “This isn’t going to be one of those depressing cancer stories, is it?” It just really got to me. But then I’m a psychotherapist, used to dealing with feelings most people usually don’t find a good audience for.

I worry about her because she doesn’t really have anyone to talk to. I think you were fortunate to have your husband and close friends. And I’m sure that the worry of reoccurence must never totally leave you.
Do you not think the Chaplain may have been saying it’s okay to say what you really feel – you don’t have to put yourself on the cross? Just a thought. Your posts often make me think :) – in a good way.

It makes facing every day a bit easier to deal with the concern of the day.
