Ah, yes! The advantages of reaching the age where “forgetting” is a waist-management tool!

I, in contrast can not eat one of pretty much anything, so am at risk of eating the whole bag of chips, or of almonds, should I find them unattended anywhere. I’ve gotten better at “forgetting” where these things are in fact hidden, which is progress, but I remember well those binges of years past. Anyway, this was a piece that certainly hit home to both of us . . .

Thanks, Sue. Today is Easter, which, according to my lapsed-Unitarian calculations, means that Lent is over. Sad to say, I scarfed down quite a few chocolate chips from the bag as I was making black bottom cupcakes. And yes, a wine-free year surely counts! Although luckily for me, wine has never been one of my Sirens.

Wow! Impressive, Heidi. Luckily, alcohol is one of the few indulgences (along with croissants and doughnuts) that NEVER call to me. Frees me up to wrestle more with the Chocolate Sirens.

Carbohydrates are gone, which means all bread and grains. Sugar is mostly gone. Wine is also mostly gone (unless at a winery with excellent wines). I feel much better and don’t feel guilty!

I was raised United- religion lite my husband calls it. Yet as a child we always gave up something maybe because my dad was baptized Catholic. I love the idea and the ritual, but somehow in the last few years I have failed to participate. I can relate to the chocolate chips from the bag issue- I joke that my current mental state is usually reflected by the size of that chocolate chip bag in my pantry. I am approaching the ned of my year without wine- surely that counts for something.
