It still amazes me that racism exists where one would think it wouldn’t, and that it exists at all. I particularly liked when you wrote: “There are plenty of times my fear of offending or of being upbraided for saying the wrong thing makes me say nothing. I do not want to remain adept at this kind of silence, where no one is the wiser, and no one learns a thing.” It is this silence that paralyzes many of us and it is deafening. No matter how far we have come as a country, and we have come a long way, the fact is we have a whole lot more work to do.
